Binghamton Men's Soccer Marks 1,000th Game with 2-1 Loss to Cornell

VESTAL, N.Y. – In their 1,000th game since the program's inception in 1960, the Binghamton men's soccer team faced a tough challenge from Cornell, resulting in a 2-1 loss. Connor Miller sealed the victory for Cornell (7-3-2) with a goal in the 87th minute, assisted by Connor Drought, who also found the back of the net and provided an assist. The non-conference match took place on Tuesday evening at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

Drought's cross into the box in the 27th minute set up his own goal, giving Cornell a 1-0 lead at halftime. Binghamton (3-8-2) made a strong start to the second half, as redshirt freshman Cailen Thomas scored his first collegiate goal from a corner kick by graduate student Jack Green. However, the turning point came in the 81st minute when Binghamton received a red card, leaving them a player down. This shift in momentum allowed the Big Red to control possession and eventually secure the win with Miller's late goal.

Head coach Paul Marco commented on the team's performance, stating, "I thought our guys played really hard today against a very good opponent. We especially came out really good in the second half, but we are disappointed with how the match ended."

Cornell dominated the shot count, outshooting Binghamton 11-1 in the first half and maintaining an 18-5 overall advantage. They also led 8-1 in shots on goal, and possession favored the Big Red at 59% to Binghamton's 41%.

In goal, sophomore Jack Root made four saves in the first half, while graduate student Dylan McDermott stopped three shots over the final 45 minutes.

Binghamton will return to America East play on Saturday with a 3 p.m. match at UMass Lowell.
